However, you should note that iOS 3.1.3 is as high as a 1st generation Touch can go. So if you were hoping to upgrade further after that, you will not be able to do so.
Therefore, if you were also hoping to upgrade so that you can get a particular app, check first to see if that app will run on iOS 3.1.3. Most apps now require a higher version of the iOS than that.
