why is itunes asking for my credit card if Im using a gift card I redeemed?

Either you're attempting to gift something, or the iTunes Store servers are checking the validity of your account and won't charge the credit card, or there's a problem at Apple's end.

on Apple TV, it asks for my credit card security code.

the gift card feature apparently works on my iphone; it deducted the amount even though there's not enough space to download the movie. can I have the amont credited back to my gift card since Im unable to download the movie to my phone?
