How to instantly delete an email from the server after reading it?

I use the Mail program in Osx 10.5.8.

I have both POP and IMAP (several email accounts).

I want to delete selected emails instantly from the server preferably the ones I have put in the Trash bin in Mail in one operaration if possible.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), 4 Gb Ram, 2.4 GHZ Intel Core Duo 2

I am not an IMAP user but POP will not download items again to the same computer as it keeps a list of downloaded files. There is sometimes a delete from server option but unless you are accessing the account from 2 computers it is not doing much for you.

In general IMAP folders are either, entirely local, entirely server or linked local and server. Try it and see what happens. Inspect result by either web access or another IMAP client.

On my Mail client cmd K deletes all trash.
