My iPod version is 6.1, but when I plug it to itunes it says "A newer version of the iPod software is available (Version 6.1.3).." Why it doesn't say IOS 7 ?? I don't want to update it to 6.1.3, I want 7. And also, will I lose my apps songs and pics if I update it??

Sounds like you do not have iTunes version 11.1 or later on your computer. That is required to update a 5G to iOS 7.
I already have iTunes version 11.1.3.8, should I just update to IOS 6.1.3 and then see if iTunes says to update to IOS 7??

Maybe you need the latest iTunes which is 11.1.4. However, is you have a PC some users have reported provoproblems es with iTunes not seeing the iPod after updating to 11.1.4.
