Hi Mitchell, as Russ mentioned and to add to his advice, you can isolate any offending MEDIA objects/ Elements by firstly establishing that there are NO issues from with FCPX 10.1 to compressor.app V4.1 workflow by AVOIDING any transitional files for promsrender processes in FCPX then to transcode via transient files to Compressor.app v4.1.

TO do this to resolve issue:

  1. in FCPX 10.1: completely render out your Primary Storyline in the FCPX project. Monitor the background processes +9)

any issues with objects MAY be defined here at this point.

  2. then export a MASTER file/share / export master) +E
    • set the TARGET as this_project_master.mov and use the usual PRORES 4.x.x or what ever you ike.
    • look for any errors here.
    • play the exported master back in QUICKTIME Player.. if no errors this if great.🙂
  3. As the subsequent and final step, perform your distribution transcode in Compressor.app V4.1
    • create a new batch in Compressor.app V4.1
    • add you aster from Step 2
    • add you distribution/publishing setting (Apple devices etc) and your TARGET location
    • SUBMIT your batch
  4. now WATCH/Monitor for any errors on Compressor.ap V4.1 by opening the Console.app and looking at compressor.logs.

Summary:

  • IF there are no errors in steps 1-4, then i'd propose you diagnose by:
    • examine the use of any FCPX effects/transitons/plugins you use in the storyline.
    • perhaps disable (uncheck blue) them and try your FCPX--> Compressor workflow (send to Compressor).
    • Through trial and error you may resolve that an EFFECT in FCPX or its order is causing your issue.
  • If above is still a problem and the STEPS1-4 work for you , you may still get the job to your client in time by using extra steps and diagnose the initial issue later.
