Correct, as there is no supported protocol to pair an iPhone to a MacBook, other than for purposes of Internet tethering.

Unless you are attempting to pair them through the "Hotspot" feature, the iPhone will not pair with the MacBook. Are you attempting the pairing through the Hotspot feature on the phone, or via the Bluetooth options?

Please explain in as much detail as possible what you are attempting to do.
Are you trying to use the iPhone to provide an Internet connection for the Mac?
Are you trying to use the Mac to provide a WiFi connection for the iPhone?
