Full Screen Photos on 5S

How come when I take photos with the 5S in landscape mode and NOT using Square, the photos do not fill up the screen also in landscape orientation? I don't recall that every happening with my 4S.

Thanks.

The iPhone 5s's screen happens to be of a different aspect ratio than the photos it takes. The photos are actually much bigger than your iPhone's screen, so they are displayed smaller so that you can see the whole thing at once. Since the aspect ratios are different, there is inevitably some space left over, so that space is filled with black.

If you really care about having your photos fill the screen, you can tap the "edit" button to crop the photos to a 16:9 aspect ratio.
