Fixing VLC Player's Skipping or Stuttering Issues on Apple TV

My movies skip or stutter when playing them from VLC Player on my MacBook Pro> AirPlay> 3rd generation Apple TV. This does not happen if I play the movies when the MacBook Pro is connected to the TV through an HDMI cable. I play mkv files on VLC.

The same skipping or stuttering happens when playing movies through VLC player from the iPad to Apple TV.

Aside from buying a non-Apple media player (something I should have done), how can this be fixed?

Thanks!

Are you using Airplay Mirroring or an in-bult VLC function?

Mirroring is a lossy technology and best avoided for quality in my view.

If VLC is transcoding on the fly and sending an h264 Airplay stream itself, chances are the transcoding engine or computer are just not up to the jobof doing this 'live'.

In other words I think it's more likely to be VLC on MAc or iPad than AppleTV itself.
