ipod seem connected but itunes wont identify it?

its an older version of ipod and besides working fine, my itunes doesnt identify it.

maybe there is a problem in the ipod itself, but I'm still able to charge it and even play games so I'm not sure wether the problem is occurring because of itunes or not.

if I'm not mistaken its the "iPod Classic" version, and for sure one from the first releases.

is there another way to make itunes identify my ipod? thanks in advance.

edit: and a windows popup appears: "you need to format the disk in drive K:(ipod) before you can use it"

Thanks for answering, jason.

I visited the links you posted above, but because itunes doens't Sync or even identify that my ipod is pugged in I cant click the restore button.

That way, I visited a few pages on the support forum's and bumped into this one:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1369. So I ran the connectivity diagnostic and the result was that all USB ports were working correctly and every support service were properly functionating. Although, the last item failed: no iPod was found and I pressed help just by the side. This link popped up http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=pt_BR

None of this worked, and i'm quite frustated right now.

Any other hints? thanks...
