I converted home video from AVI to MP4. It can be found in iTunes on my PC, but it does not appear in the Home Videos menu of Apple TV. Why?

Are they in the Home Videos section within iTunes on your computer? What did you use to convert?

MP4 is just the container. Make sure the files are fully compatible

  • H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
  • MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

Things are becoming more confusing to me. I reconverted the video into Quicktime and moved it to iTunes where it appeared as a Movie rather than home video- and I could watch it. I then converted the same original video again to MP4, and it also appeared in Movies and not Home Videos. So perhaps there was a problem with the original conversion from AVI to MP4, but why is the video going to Movies and not Home Video?
