Second hand iPhone

I'm planning to buy an iPhone 5s soon and not sure if it'll be brand new or second hand. What I'd like to know is that if its second hand, what are the steps that I need to do so that I wouldn't get locked out to the first owner using Find My iPhone?



I will get a letter from the seller but would like to know even if I DFU restore it and activate it with my apple ID will the original owner be able to lock me out?


What are the precauions I need to take in order to avoid any future bricking due to the previous owner activating Find My iPhone or anything of that sort?

ALL these steps need to be performed by the Seller...
