Mac OS XI've a late 2011 15" and am running 16GB of RAM. I like Crucial RAM but OWC is good as well. Go to the Crucial website and click on the System Scanner tab. Download and unzip and run a small app that will report your model back to Crucial and you'll be presented with upgrade options.
You don't have to go all the way to 16GB, of course. 8GB is the 'sweet spot' to me for RAM.
Good luck,
Clinton
