I have recently bought a 2nd hand Airport Express 1084. I have realised after reading many discussions that I can't set it up on Mavericks. I really only want to use it to stream music to some speakers. I already have an Airport Extreme. I have a Windows computer (running Windows XP). But I'm having issues setting it up on that. Can anyone help please!!

Keep in mind that the A1084 Express is at least 8 years old....probably older....and the average life of an Express...in my opinion..is about 5 years.

I was wondering when I'd see a reply from you! Well my Windows computer won't join any wireless networks. I plugged my Express into it via an Ethernet cable, sorted out the settings then Airport Utility 'lost' it.
The A1084 Express cannot "join" a wireless network and provide an Ethernet signal to another device. You need the A1264 or A1392 version for that capability.

No, not really. All I want to do with it is stream music. The only reason I connected it via Ethernet to my PC was because it wasn't finding it (I assume due to the WiFi problem). Can I just use it to stream music?
If you configured the AirPort Express to "join a wireless network" and you got the wireless network name, wireless security and password correct, then it will join, assuming that it is working properly.
Restart the PC again.
A green light would be a good sign on the Express.
Plug in a pair of stereo headphones to test the Express to see if AirTunes is working.

Yes, you will need to have AirPort Utility installed on the PC to be able to configure the Express.
Be advised that the Windows Firewall is likely going to cause some issues when you try to configure the Express.
I can't get the Utility to find it. I think it's firstly due to the WiFi issue (where my PC won't connect to WiFi) but even when I connect it via Ethernet nothing happens. Is there any way of configuring using Mac?
I've just looked on Utility on my Mac and it seemed to have found it but then said that it was "previously part of my network..."

What operating system is the Mac using that you have there? If you have Mavericks installed, it cannot be used to configure the Express.
You must use a 5.x version of AirPort Utility on another Mac or a PC. Not having wireless working on the PC makes it very difficult to configure the Express.
I don't have a PC here to test, so not sure how much more help that I can provide.
All that you can do is start over and perform a factory default reset on the Express and then try to see if it can be configured.
Not really. I have dug out a windows laptop with WiFi but when I try and set up anew wireless network it says "Windows could not find the Airport Express after the restart"? I'll put it plainly, all I want to do is stream music wirelessly. Is there a way to get aroudpnd he whole wireless thing?
I understand what you are trying to do, but I do not have a PC here to test out on the old Express in the drawer to see what works and what doesn't.
