My computer recetnly crashed and I am trying to reauthorize it. My account shows that I have only authorized 4 computers for this account, but when I try to authorize this account, I get a box that says I already have 5 devices connected to my account.

The article you referenced is the correct one. In your iTunes Store account, you should be able to see all of the computers you have authorized. One solution is to deauthorize all of your computers, and then reauthorize the ones you want.
