Oct 6, 2015 7:19 AM in response to solbergdwby Samantha Dow,Add me to the list of people experiencing the same problem on my ipad. I delete the account and re-add it, and it works fine for a few days, and then I get the errors again. I have two-factor authentication enabled, if that adds anything to the mix in terms of settings.

Oct 6, 2015 9:02 AM in response to MailQueryby geostern,I found this happening both on iOS8 and iOS9, but it is worse on iOS9. What works is simply to close down all open mail windows (double-click the home button and flick the apps off). That works every time for me. But it is happening too often. Either Apple needs to figure out a fix or communicate with mail companies to do their thing on their end. By the way, this is occurring both on Gmail and OUTLOOK mail, but not with my Apple mail me.com) account.

Oct 6, 2015 2:17 PM in response to JethroMcMullanby DexnLuc,i have the same problem. 3 gmail accounts, only one having problems. I deleted all three, reset all settings, and can add back in the 2 gmail accounts that never had a problem, but when i try to add in my primary gmail account, it will not get past the screen for choosing what to allow (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, etc). it switches to that screen for a second then boots me all the way back to "add an account" without giving me a chance to save. Please help with a solution!

Oct 11, 2015 2:33 AM in response to DexnLucby Craser,Add me to the list of complainants. And the latest iOS has also screwed up connection with POP accounts - look here
It seems to me that Apple has some work to do for its next update

Oct 14, 2015 9:16 AM in response to MailQueryby Zsebtetu,I only have this on 3g, but not on wifi. I've done everything: power, re-added ... several times and still doens't work.
Once I have wifi , everything is OK.

Oct 14, 2015 11:42 AM in response to Zsebtetuby geostern,I believe this happens no matter what service is being used, although I don't really have control over that. If I am not mistaken, mail uses data unless it isn't available

Oct 14, 2015 5:44 PM in response to MailQueryby 4nier,I'm having this problem as well, except it's only when I'm connected to the wifi at my school. The mail app for my gmail account works fine on my home wifi and 4G. So weird! I hope they fix it soon because it's rather annoying.

Nov 1, 2015 9:34 PM in response to MailQueryby Steel Dragon,Same problem with three Gmail accounts on an iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus, both running the latest version of iOS 9. I was also having the problem when running iOS 8. The problem comes and goes, nothing seems to make it go away. I have been dealing with this on two generations of iPhone and two generations of iOS, and I'm finding it's more prevalent with iOS 9, and it's really starting to get to me, veeeery frustrating I don't have this issue with any of my iCloud email accounts. Apple, are you listening? This is a widespread issue and we really need a solution. Its been two years now, come on, give us a hand here, please!!

Nov 2, 2015 5:20 AM in response to MailQueryby euchien,OK, I have the exact same problem once I updated the IOS. Power cycling did not work. I deleted my gmail account in the mail setting and added it back in when NOT on wifi. This is key. I tried doing it on wifi and it will not go through the whole account addition process. Just make sure you are not on wifi when adding the gmail account back and you'll be fine!

Nov 2, 2015 9:25 AM in response to euchienby Craser,I too have been having this problem for some weeks - tried deleting and reinstalling the account but that didn't work, A few days ago I tried ALLOW LESS SECURE APPS on the gmail site and so far, that seems to be working. Go to GOOGLE>MY ACCOUNT>SIGN AND SECURITY>CONNECTED APPS AND SITES>ALLOW LESS SECURE APPS>ON
I don't fully understand what's going on, but I suspect it's an interaction of google's increased security and Apple's upgrade. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for the moment. HTH

Nov 2, 2015 10:56 AM in response to Craserby Steel Dragon,I have done this many times in the past, allow access for less secure apps, but it has never worked permanently. The issue always comes back. Its not a fix.

Nov 2, 2015 3:42 PM in response to Steel Dragonby Craser,It seems to be ok for me at the moment, but if it fails again I might try implementing the google two-step verification. I am using an iPhone 4S. Not sure if it's an Apple problem or a Google problem.

Nov 6, 2015 5:47 AM in response to Craserby 1957Goldtop,This issue started for me recently as well. I already have the "less secure apps" setting enabled so that's not it.

Nov 6, 2015 8:03 AM in response to 1957Goldtopby Craser,It's still ok for me at present, so keeping fingers firmly crossed.

Nov 6, 2015 8:57 AM in response to MailQueryby geostern,I found a fix that is not permanent, but that always works quickly. When you get the imap message, simply double-ckick the HOME button on your iPad or iPhone and delete (by sweeping up) the mail program. Then go back into the mail prpogram. It'll work. By the way, this happens with G mail and sometimes with Outlook.com mail (Hotmail, MSN mail), maybe more. Apple needs to address it.
