i am unable to see video on my TV when i use airplay.

Recently i have been unable to see video on my TV when i use the airplay function. Thsi si new it used to work fine. I have had to watch videos on my laptop since the screen just goes blank whern i hit the airplay button. another recent change is that this (2) has appeared beside the Apple TV optionin the drop down menu. Also Itune music and videos randomly play when I am trying to watch a movie. Any ideas?
