Events added to my phone (4s /iOS7) won't sync to my Macbook using iTunes

At this time, I choose to not use iCloud.

When I sync my iPhone4s (iOS 7.0.4) to my MacBook (10.6.8) using the latest iTunes (11.1.4), any event that I add to my phone does not sync with the laptop. I have to add events in manually, if I want to be able to see them on the macbook.

Also, events that I've deleted on the macbook are not deleted on the phone... but events that I've added on the macbook *are* synced with the phone.

I have several calendars, and the problem exists for all of them.
