I have an iMAC remote control from my old iMAC. I want to use it on my new iMAC. Apple: Model A1156 EMC
How can I pair this with my new iMAC with OS Mavericks?

My info above is still valid.
Here are the iDevice remote apps
Rowmote Pro: Remote Control for Mac by Evan Schoenberg
It looks like Apple, recently, dumbed down/reduced their Rsmote app just to control iTunes, now.
Useless.
I don't think the Satechi Remote will work for your purposes, either.
There aren't very many physical remotes that work with new Macs, any longer.
The old Apple remote is useless and obsolete on new Macs, now!
Your options are limited, now, since Apple removed IR remote control from all of their Mac lineup from all 2012 Mac models and forward.
If you have a iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, the Rowmote Pro app is the only way to totally control a Mac and applications.
Do you own an iPhone or iPodTouch?
See their website here and decide for yourself.
Here are some hardware remotes that Amazon has THAT MIGHT/MAY work with your Mac.

Good Luck!
Apple Remote (aluminium or white plastic) can still be used on MacBook Pro Retina and newer Mac, by using an external USB receiver. SmartGUS is percfect for this use and all IR functions are back agin (iTunes, VLC, Volume, KeyNote, PowerPoint, OpenOffice...)

New iMacs do not have an IR receiver so your remote control cannot be used.
If you want to control your new iMac remotely and you own a mobile iDevice, there are remote apps you can use on both your iMac and iDevice. These apps work over Wifi and/or Bluetooth.
Apple has its own remote app simply called Remote.
Another, which I use and is very comprehensive remote app, is called Rowmote Pro by a developer called Regular & Rhythm.
If you want complete and total remote control access to your Mac, look at Splashtop Remote.
There is also a dedicated WifI and/or Bluetooth remote for Macs and iDevices by a company called Satechi.
Found here.
Did you figure this out? I have a remote control as well that I want to use for a keynote presentation. If I can't use that ...what would be a good option?
I did...not looking for a phone app...I want to be able to hold a small, sleek remote while I give a presentation...not my phone.
I want a clicker for my training.
