Erasing Saved iMessage

My iPhone is almost out of memory. Looking at my USAGE it says I have 1.2G of iMessage being used. I erased all of my messages and restarted my phone. It still says there are 1.2G worth of SAVED MESSAGES. I do not have any of this data going to iCloud. How do I erase this? I would think that if I have no messages showing in my app that I would not have any data being used.

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Thanks but no go. I have tried that. Wondering if I just need to reset the phone.
