I want to know that torrent client called transmission is good for my macbook air(which is running on OSX MAVERICKS).
I am bit afraid to use a torrent client for my macbook air
So is it ok to download books via a torrent cllient?

Torrents are used by some legit sites but also for illegal filesharing. I strongly recommend that you stay away from filesharing sites because it is not legal, not ethical, and because it is a good way to get your computer pwned. However, if you are accessing a legal site utilizing torrent sharing, Transmission is pretty decent.
