Q: delete icloud account

I am trying to delete an old email/ icloud account on a ipad i gave to my wife.  she is having problems linking to her stuff. she gets mine.  The problem is I no longer have access to the old email and do not remember my apple id password.  When I try and reset it it asks for my birthday. I key it in but it tells me it does not match teh information on file.  I also do not remember ever having a reset key.   Any ideas on deleting this account.

    Go to appleID.apple.com and sign in under "manage your apple ID" using your current apple ID email and password.  Change the primary email to the old email and save changes.  Then go into settings on the ipad under iCloud and delete account.  Then go back to appleID.apple.com and sign in again with the old email and password and change the primary back to your current email.
