Can not verify a 2nd email to receive or send Messages

I am attempting to add a second email to MESSAGES to be able to use more then one email to receive or send messages on my iPad. I receive an error message that the email can not be verified. What is the possible problem and what is the fix?

Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Which Apple products support Messages using iMessage?

To use Messages with iMessage, you need one of the following Apple products:

  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • iPad Mini
  • iPod touch
  • Mac with Mac OS X v10.8.x

You need a valid Apple ID to use iMessage on iPad, iPod touch, and Messages for Mac. You need a valid phone number or Apple ID to use iMessage on iPhone.

So only the emai lssociated with the currently logged in appleid is valid.
