Using Sharp MX2310u with mavericks and it won't print
Hi There,
I've just bought a new iMAC, and it came with mavericks. Now the work printer won't connect. Any ideas on how to circumnavigate the need for Sharp to produce up to date drivers?

Looking at the specifications for the MX2310u on the Sharp Australia web site, the machine uses a proprietary printer language called SAPL and has optional PCL and Postscript print kits. So if your machine has either or both of the optional kits installed, you could create a print queue on the Mac using the HP Jetdirect-Socket protocol and using the Generic Postscript (preferred) or Generic PCL drivers included with 10.9.
Thank you Pahu. I will look into this and try it out. I noticed on other Sharp threads a referal to the HP Jetdirect, but wanted some advice before I stepped into the unknown. :-) Tania
Hi Tania.
The HP Jetdirect protocol is the default protocol used by Windows, where it is called Standard TCP/IP or RAW Port 9100. So the advantage of creating the printer queue on the Mac using this protocol is that it is often enabled in the copier and it does not require a specific queue name like LPD can sometimes require.
To check what options are installed, if you know the IP address the Sharp is using, then you can enter this IP address into a web browser as the URL. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from one of the provided menus you should be able to see what option kit the Sharp has.
Well. Sharp just put out a new driver. So that solved that issue!
