Feb 12, 2014 12:50 AM in response to Wildreinby King_Penguin,You won't lose your account's balance if you add a credit card to your account, but as long as you are buying content for yourself then your balance will be used up first before your card starts being charged.
From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5582 :
When making purchases, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits; your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance.
