Activation lock is one of those things that can only be resolved by the owner that put the lock on the device.

This article answers some questions you might have including "How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?" http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818  This article explains more about Activation Lock: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13695

Contact the seller to either provide the password to remove AL on the device itself, or get them to remove it from thier iCloud account online.  Without the previous owners password or cooperation, there is no way to de-activate Activation Lock.  Apple will not help you either - only the previous owner can do anything about it for you.

I also face same problem. I'm factory reset my aunty Ipad mini. Last time I create an email, apple ID for her together activate Find my Ipad. Now even me and my aunty also forget the password that I create for her. plus no full email address can view after reset it. Apple really make high security on ipad but it create trouble to us.

No choice, I need to wait my aunty to find the purchase resit (company lucky draw) and show to apple store. Otherwise throw it to salt sea.

That is one of the reasons why I dont support any Apple product.

You mean your aunt doesn't know her own AppleID address? It would usually be her regular email address, and that is where a password reset email would be sent. She probably uses the same AppleID in iTunes on her computer.

That is one of the reasons why I dont support any Apple product.

You and your "aunt" forgot the password. That is no-one's fault but your own. If you had taken simple precautions of safely storing the password somewhere, you wouldn't be in this situation.

I have to agree with snozdop... no one made you forget your password or activate Find My iPhone.

It makes me giggle inside when people blame others for their own problems and mistakes.

for us like savvy people then ok. but how to old people. but loves apple products. they just know how to use it. sometimes they also cant remember much. how many of us daily use our apple id password?

how about people that not updating any apps, install new apps.

in my country, we bought phone then register with telco. we paid a full price of the phone.  then phone is ours rite?? . whats gonna happen next to the bloody phone is our responsibility. even we cant claim the crack screen of iphone like US user did.

due to this  locking mechanisme, we only can throw it away.

If you are concerned you may forget your AppleID password and get locked out of your own device, then store your password somewhere safe that you can refer to if you forget it. Simple.

Problem solved with call apple hotline. Sent them lucky draw document with S/N inside. Solved it within 24 hours.

The apple id that set dont link to valid email. That email is not existing. Hence all normal method wont work to get back the password. This must be reset by apple itself.
