Apple Mac Pages 5.1 Update Issue Solved…

Hi Apple users,

If you are like me and recently updated Pages to version 5.1 and could no longer open some or most of your saved documents then you may wish to read on of how I got around this issue.

I naturally went to Dr Google only to find many others with the same issue. Most posts were blaming Apple I was starting to wonder.

Then I thought try Apple Help and see if they can help.

After searching down a few levels I got to Apple Chat and chatted with Adam who was very helpful but could not solve the issue. Adam connected me to Larry in Apple Technical Support specialising in Pages Support.

Now after Larry’s assistance and guidance Pages 5.1 opens all earlier version documents for me.

If you are a mac user and having issues after updating to Pages 5.1 then I am sure Apple support will see you right.

Or if you prefer to do the fix yourself.

The following is what Larry guided me through:

Open Finder and locate the new pages icon.

Click and drag the new pages icon to your dock.

Right click your old pages icon in your dock, go to options click Keep In Dock to unlock.

Again right click your old pages icon in your dock, click Quit.

Now drag the old pages icon from dock to a blank space on your screen and release.

You are now all set. Pages will do all those Apple magic jobs for you once more, even more now.

Magic Apple again yes magic apple…

All the best of internet success to you.

Cheers,

Jim..

You really don't know what is going on.

This is not a "bug"

All the Dock holds is aliases to Applications which are on your Hard Drive.

When Apple installs Pages it leaves old applications in a folder labelled iWork inside the Applications folder.

The new versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote are loose in the Applications folder.

Because they have been just as sloppy with the installation as everything else to do with this "upgrade", they have left the old aliases on the Dock and failed to add aliases to the new versions.

The two versions of all the iWork apps are still on your Mac and liable to being opened at random when you double click on a file.

If you try to open a Pages 5 document with an older version it will tell you to upgrade. Simple as that.
