I am purchasing a new laptop (not sure which yet) and would like to be able to use a monitor with it when I use it at my desk at home. Can I use my old iMac desktop as a monitor and what cord would I need if so? Thank you!

Certain iMac models do have a mode, known as Target Display Mode, that allows them to be used as an external display for certain other Macs. You may find the following article helpful:
