Q: is the thunderbolt port able to be used to input to my new MBP or is it only an output?

Can I use the thunderbolt port on my new MBP to input data from my external HD which has firewire 800 output

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), Mac OS X (10.0.x)
