Mac OS X 10.6.8 Freezing/Crashing

Question

For the past few months my computer has been randomly black screening which has forced me to restart it. Someones I could go days without it, but recently its been happening 5 times a day. I dont know whats going on and I&#x27;m not running a ridiculous amount of programs all at the same time. After i restart my computer when the problems happened it says "Your Computer shut down because of a problem" And this is the resport it gives back.I&#x27;m no computer genius so I dont know whats going on. caustin0821,you’re going to need the grey Mac OS X Install DVD which originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro. You’ll need to boot from it by holding down the C key as you restart your MacBook Pro. When you’ve booted from the DVD, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu on the menu bar. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Do you still get the frequent blackscreening?

I will definetly try using the DVD to see if I can find any errors, only thing is I&#x27;m at college and the DVD is currently at my house so I&#x27;m going to see if i can get it mailed to me. Otherwise, I will try to see if removing that other thing solves my issues. I&#x27;ll be sure to write back once I test it all out!

I was having this "freeze" issue on an older MAC I decided to resurrect: MAC PRO A1186, Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 4g ram, 500gb HD.After many attempts: fresh install of OS, replace PRAM battery, Rest NVRAM, repair disk permissions, turn off TimeMachine, turn off SpotLight, and a few more....I finally had success in a simple obvious way: The previous owner had 4 dual-DVI video cards installed. They weren&#x27;t optimized in setup. I pulled out 3 of them, left Video Card 1 in the machine. Issue solved! Running well now.
