Motu 896 with Ultralite Aggregate device Problem

Hi, when I hook up a Motu 896 HD with the Motu Ultralite (daisy chaining the 896 and Ultralite via firewire - along with a glyph external hard drive ) Logic gets incredibly slow and eventually crashes repeatedly.
I often can get off 1 or 2 recordings but then it appears the computer bogs, beachball spins frequently and long delays accessing anything in Logic.

I believe the Aggregate device drive is not working properly. Anybody using these two devices together without a problem?

I am wondering if this occurs because both devices are using the same firewire 400 bus? I ordered a 6 to 9 pin firewire cable to see if connecting each device to its own port will help. Anybody have any ideas how I can get this to work properly? Thanks.

I tried using a 6 to 9 pin firewire cable to connect the Motu Ultralite to it's own port on the Powerbook with the Motu 896 HD on the other firewire port. This didn't seem to make much difference. When I turn on 'System Performance' the Audio section runs about 90% and will often peak out.
Anybody else having similar issues? Just curious if it is my device, if I need a faster machine or simply a problem with the Aggregate device driver in OS X not working very well. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
