How can I make my MacBook Recognize more ram?
My MacBook (2006) Says it can have a limit of 2GB Ram. Is there any way I can make it recognize more? Even 4GB would be nice.
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 2GB Ram

That is the limit according to Apple. Check what OWC, http://www.macsales.com has to offer...they have ram for a lot of Macs that exceeds the Apple limit successfully.
OWC says that can go to 4 GB.
If this is the same MacBook as from your previous post (MacBook 1,1) it can take 2gB of RAM.

Very interesting, the MacBook with Core 2 Duo in 2006 was MacBook2,1 and can take 4 GB, while the one with the Core Duo is MacBook1,1 and can take 2 GB.
The quoted info in the two posts does not agree.
Agreed. I was following the OPs other post after posting in it earlier today. The quoted info from the OP seems to be a 1,1, but they are convinced it is a newer model.
I looked and it says the 1,1 can have 2.0 GB RAM
It is also from my older post, yes.
If it is the MacBook1,1 then it cannot go above 2 GB.
Is there a way to somehow modify the system to recognize more? I have heard some people can get 3GB after they modify the system.
No, that limit is set by the chipset on the logic board itself. Only changing the logic board can change that and doing that will cost as much as buying a different computer.
The MacBook1,1 can only go to 2 GB, and the MacBook2,1 can go to 4 GB. They have different cpus and differnent memory controllers.

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The model 1,1 (Early 2006) can use 2gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAMThe model 2,1 (Late 2006) can use 3gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
If you have the model 2,1 you can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
Could I replace some other things inside to make it recognize more ram like say if I got a newer motherboard?
That is what I said above, replace the logic board, also called the motherboard...but that will cost around $700 so you may as well look into a new computer. And if the logic board is not exactly the same form factor as the old it will not fit, screws will not line up, and on and on.
You should be able to buy a repaired working MacBook core2duo with limited warranty or guarantee from an independent service company who fixes them for a living (not ebay or auction) for under $400. plus shipping.
So that would make more sense than trying to cobble together different build versions of MacBook with varying reasons why they are different in hardware specification, to only gain a little RAM. A faster-spin rate hard disk drive could help it run almost that much faster. But the ceiling on what OS X upgrade it may take is the same.
OWC, powerbookmedic, wegenermedia, and others offer working older Apple portables. Some also have facillities to perform quality repair and a few do upgrades such as HDD/SSD installation, etc; for a price.
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
One thing is I dont want to spend too much, my MacBook is only worth $220 and im not sure if spending $100+ is going to be worth it.
