How can I make my MacBook Recognize more ram?

My MacBook (2006) Says it can have a limit of 2GB Ram. Is there any way I can make it recognize more? Even 4GB would be nice.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 2GB Ram

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

The model 1,1 (Early 2006) can use 2gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAMThe model 2,1 (Late 2006) can use 3gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM

If you have the model 2,1 you can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/

You should be able to buy a repaired working MacBook core2duo with limited warranty or guarantee from an independent service company who fixes them for a living (not ebay or auction) for under $400. plus shipping.

So that would make more sense than trying to cobble together different build versions of MacBook with varying reasons why they are different in hardware specification, to only gain a little RAM. A faster-spin rate hard disk drive could help it run almost that much faster. But the ceiling on what OS X upgrade it may take is the same.

OWC, powerbookmedic, wegenermedia, and others offer working older Apple portables. Some also have facillities to perform quality repair and a few do upgrades such as HDD/SSD installation, etc; for a price.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
