Importing from Mini DV tapes

I have been importing all of my video through my camcorder. I am looking to reduce wear and tear on the playhead. Is there any sort of Mini DV player that connects via firewire for importing. Like a VHS rewinder that people used so their VCR didn't have to take the abuse. Cheap is good.

I want to sport a clean camcorder playhead.

Most people get a Deck to play there tapes from

however you could also get an inexppencive camera to to it from.

How much video do you import and how often?

I am not really looking for a VCR combo. 600$ is a bit much, I am looking for a small, inexpensive Mini DV tape player with firewire.

Do you want a rewinder or a VTR? Your talk about both in your post. DV rewinders are cheap, but don't plaback footage. A VTR (aka deck, VCR) won't be cheap. You're cheapest option for a playback device would be to purchase a cheap DV camcorder to use in VTR mode. You can usually find them from $250.00 and up ... just make sure its compatible with FCP.

not the ones with a VCR but one of the VTR decks

if you want some thing cheep you will propably have to get a cheep camera

Again how much video and how often. If its not a lot then it may not be worth it.

It would be worth up to 400$ to me. I am trying to elimate the inconvience of using the camera as playback controls as well. I dont like the loading procedure that cameras have. I haven't seen anything out there like what I am looking for, and I am not sure that I am getting my idea across. I am looking for a compact VCR type playback device capable of FF, RW, PLAY, STOP functions that can import via firewire.

shure there are small ones but they are still out of the price range you specified.

If you are capturing one or two tapes a month its probably not woth getting anything. And if you just have a consumer (soccer mom) camera you will probably end up replacing it in a fiew years anyway.

If you are capturing daily you want a nice full deck
