Hi,

The first question would be: Do you have access to Ami Pro? If so, you could run the program on a (possibly older) Windows PC and save (Save as) the files in another suitable format. Sometimes old programs can be found via an online auction site.

Without the program it is more complicated. Usually, one would look under the Open menu in another word processing program for a list of file formats. Unfortunately, it seems to be rather unusual to find Ami Pro in such lists. You could check whether the applications on your computers contain anything of interest.

At least Word 2000 had the ability to handle Ami Pro files if an extra converter was installed (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/208863), but it appears to be unclear whether exactly this converter is still available.

Another possibility could perhaps be to locate someone with access to Lotus Word Pro in order to check whether the program version in question has an appropriate converter for Ami Pro files.

Finally, one can always try to use a plain text editor to open a word processing document in a special format. The result may be a mix of understandable and meaningless text, but one can often find useful information.

Are the files on PC-formatted diskettes? Be careful with old diskettes. It is easy to lose data. Make sure that the disks are locked (write-protected) before you make an attempt to open anything. Create backup copies of the disks as soon as possible.
