My pad no longer goes into automatic lock after 2 min. How do I fix?

My iPad does not always automatically go into lock after designated 2 minutes. I have played with the settings under "general" but having erratic results. Any solutions for this?

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let the iPad start up and see if the setting will stay put.

If that fails - Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data is lost but all settings must be entered again.
