Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.

You should get the battery checked by Apple and if the battery is dying, they will replace it for you.

Hey Guys this is a Old post but I just bought a iPhone 4s Second-Hand on eBay. I had the same problems and fought it was the Battery. So i replaced the Battery & it worked! The Battery I got was only £6:49 of eBay (http://goo.gl/SKgyrq) & it was easy to Fix! Thanks for Reading!

Got error 29 while restore / update and brought phone to Apple and wanted me to exchange for $199. Heard that a battery could cause issue, so had it replaced and now good to go. Had it done at kiosk in mall near Apple store for $30 and 5 minutes.

I would seriously like to recommend you try these steps before you throw any money on the issue...
