There is no way to pair say a Bluetooth speaker like, a HMDX Jams speaker? And the only way to stream say just music is only with a connection to my PC/Laptop (via WiFi?). There is not an app that can be downloaded on to Apple TV that allows streaming of iTunes without the connection to the PC/Laptop? I am actually researching at the moment was going to purchase the Apple TV this morning. Needing more feedback on what is actually possible with the device and seems you know way more than I. I have been an iPhone user for years (still on iPhone 4s and I have been wondering and thinking of changing to a different operating system though I truly like the iPhone and operating systems), not a Mac user at the moment but as well that, is in my thinking too. I will be venturing down that path a little bit later down the road. But, any information regarding the Apple TV device.... say functionality or capabilities that do not seem 100% clear since everywhere you go to look are vague and/or very different. Hoping for your assistance, Thank you in advance!

Basic wants from a device such as Apple TV:

-Streaming of video via WiFi through device and WiFi only without, connecting to PC/Laptop unless streaming is needed as play back from media on currently on hard drive

-Access to iTunes media file without connection as well

-the option to connect devices such as iPhone 4s via Bluetooth or WiFi to stream media as well

-and yes a big yes to be able to also connect media audio output to a speaker not wired to connected to TV or Apple device and only available to receive audio via Bluetooth from a source that can be paired to other Apple device’s

Am I seeking way too much? Is this possible with Apple products or even non Apple products? Help and/or, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

- The only thing that can connect via bluetooth using Apple TV is a wireless keyboard. So no, you cannot use speakers in this manner. Most things work under another wireless protocol, airplay. So if you were to look for wireless speakers to use with Apple TV that is what you want. Or if you have an Airport Express (router) you can connect speakers to it and they will become airplay enabled. The benefit over bluetooth is that the content is not compressed, it is sent over the local wifi network.

- Apps cannot be downloaded to the Apple TV. If you wish to stream your iTunes library over the local network then that is done using home sharing, which requires a computer to be up and running iTunes. There is no accessible storage on the Apple TV device.

If you subscribe to iTunes Match then you can access your full iTunes library directly on Apple TV, it will be streaming from the cloud. You can also use airplay to stream any content stored on an iPhone (as well as other IOS devices) or from apps (if the developer has enabled it).

No u are wrong!!! I am screen mirroring with a gen 3 rev a right now. U have to disable wifi on ur phone and forget wifi networks then u turn on blu tooth on phone swipe up hit air play then u turn on bluetooth in apple tv and it will show up on airplay menu and ur good. U really screwed these people over for 2 or 3 years by saying that it is not possible as they all apparently belived u!!!

Nope i am using my iphone to screen mirror right now u meed a gen 3 rev a that is a 1469 on ur apple tv if u have a 1427 that is the earlier gen 3 and ur outta luck. Gen 4 is good to go. There is a trick u need to forget ur wifi network in ur phone all of them. Then u enable bluetooth on ur phone! Then swipe up and turn on airplay (nothing will appear) then turn on bluetooth in apple tv! It will appwar connect and ur good its soo amazing blutooth mirror upnoth no internet!!! If it does not work power off and on both devices. The trick is to shut off wifi it wont work unless u forget the network not just turn it off. Sorry u were lied to by so called experts here as u could of been enjoying thia for a couple of yeara now!!!!!

Peer to peer airplay simply uses bluetooth instead of bonjour for discovery, and once the devices find each other it is using the airplay protocol. Apple TV does not stream nor mirror over bluetooth. The OP was trying to do something entirely different and the responses were accurate. Again, I suggest you read about what you are writing before posting.

Nopr! It is not peer to peer the original comment on this page u reponded to incorrectly... the issue was the person cant get and blue tooth device to pair with apple tv( for screen mirror they used both mirror and stream in the sentance but it is clear the said they wanted to mirror files they already have not download or upload with bluetooth. Ur anweser was only a keyboard can be used!!! That is incorrect as ipads and iphones ect all can be paired the issue is most expect it to show up on apple tv when it searches that is not how it work u want it to search thats it. The. On ur device u disable wifi and forget it and swipe up to enable air play. Once u do that u turn on bluetooth in apple tv settings and it searches. - almost immediately on ur devise apple tv pops up and u have a pair to screen mirror.

You are incorrect. I am referring to peer to peer airplay because that is the protocol being used in your scenario and what you are describing are the steps to enable peer to peer airplay. You are misinterpreting it as using bluetooth to stream (when it is only used for discovery) and that is the problem.

Yes, the OP was asking to stream/mirror using bluetooth and as has been stated multiple times that is not possible. Mirroring is a very intensive task, and airplay is required as it is a much superior protocol (other DLNA protocols would fall in line with it as well and are used on other devices). I reiterate you need to understand and read about what you are speaking about before you post as all you are doing is confusing the issue.

Alright man i am truly starting to get annoyed... read this

https://www.google.com/amp/s/physedagogy.com/2014/09/25/no-wi-fi-no-problem-usin g-apple-tv-to-mirror-your-device-without-wifi/amp/?client=safari

Uf u would read my entire comment u would realize that wifi has been disabled no internet is available! Yet it streams 1080p content. Is it broadcasted in 1080p maybe not depends on interference but i can bet it was at least 720p area. I turned my wifi back on and got not better picture. This is ur phone using bluetooth to transmit the video and audio!!! I am not mistaken i have watched countless hours on bluetooth once again!!!! No wifi is on the phone as that is the trick u have to forget wifi networks . Tead that article please! Then once u do be the bigger persob and admit u are wrong so these people can enjoy what they have been trying to do for years!

Honestly i dont know how to get it through to u.. this is not blutooth discovery it is transferred data via bluetooth no internet needed. The steps i described are exactly how to enable bluetooth streaming not discovery!!!! It is not widely know, and actually it is not known by most. U need gen 3 rev a or newer no older model allows it. (Incuding the first 2012 released apple tv) gen 3 revision A was released 2013 and that is the model i just purchased 2 weeks ago as my older gen 3 coul not do it. It is tricky at first but once u know how to do it, its simple. You have to do it in the right order and some even say they can do it and not tutn off wifi but i can only do it with wifi off.( screen mirroring via blutooth) read my lrevious comment and use provided url. It is the article that showed me how to do it. Or simply google apple tv no wifi and it will be one of the first results and amp article.
