Can't switch graphic cards

Hello,

I have a macbook pro (mid-2009) osx 10.6.8 and I want to change the graphics performance. I read that there's an option under Energy Saver.

Unfortunately the supposedly graphics options "better battery life/higher performance" are not available in my Energy Saver window.

Please advise and thanks for your help.
