iTunes movie download error "tap to retry"

Good evening. I rented a movie on iTunes on my ipad. It started downloading, stopped and is saying "download error, tap to retry" tapping to retry does nothing. Same circle of prompts. I looked online with a general search for answers.... Nothing is working. I updated to the latest version, have plenty of space and it won't let me delete it. I restarted as well. Hoping someone can help, thanks in advance for your time.
