Q: how to program a pause id dialling string

I would like to call y voice mail from my iphone as one contact number.

To do this i need to wait (pause) for the connection to be made.

I have entered commas in contacts but these seem to have no effect when dialing. that is the string after the pause never seems to get executed.

What am I missing?
