Why does my drive change locations on the desktop?

Everytime I erase a partition of one of my hard drives. Its location resets. As in, it goes to the furthest right row with an empty spot, and then goes to the highest spot in that row. When I erase my SD card or USB flash drive, as long as I give it the same name and format, it always goes to where it was before, regardless of whether I erase the entire disk or just the partition, but for some reason, this partition of my LaCie 1TB hard drive resets position. Could it be because the drive has 2 partitions that it does this. How can I fix it? I like having my desktop organized in a certain way, and this is kinda making it annoying to do that.
