How to fix "service battery"?

The battery on my MacBook Pro has naturally been deteriorating due to age, but recently it has said it's running on service battery. Is there a way I can fix it at home, or do I have to go to an Apple store to fix it?

I don't know if this helps, but according to the app "Battery Health" my computer is 3.8 yrs. old and has gone through 599 battery cycles.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

You give no indication of what kind of Mac you are using or date of manufacture. New macs user cannot replace battery, older Macs you can replace the battery.

With that I would say:

Take it in for service.
