Assigning MIDI output to buttons, only Control Change 122 sending

In MainStage 3 I wish to assign buttons to send MIDI for controlling the program QLAB. Every MIDI message I attempt to assign/send via an external channel strip from the MIDI output tab is received by QLab as a Control Change 122 message no matter what I specify (Program Change, Channel Proessure, changes in value, etc.) Any help?
