copy and paste pages between documents in Pages

How can I copy and paste pages between documents, or merge documents in Pages? The usual highlight, cut and paste will not work.

In Pages '09:

In the source document:

If Page Thumbnails are not visible in a column to the left of the document, use the View button or the view menu to Show Page Thumbnails.

Click on the thumbnail for the page you want to copy. This will select the Section, shown by a yellow boundary, containing the page. See italics below if you want one page from a multi page section.

Copy.

In the target document:

Show Page Thumbnails (as above).

Click in the Page Thumbnails sidebar.

Paste.

You can drag the thumbnail to place the page/section between other sections in the document.

If a section contains more than one page, and you want to copy and paste only a single page, you will need to insert a section break before and after the page to put it into a section by itself. These can be removed later to restore the source document to its original form. Similar actions will be needed to place a single page within a section in the target document.

Tested in Pages '09, using a single page source document and a new (single page) target document. Both are word processing docs. I suspect you're using Pages 5 (the most recent version), and that this is one of the (as yet) not included features. Provide Pages Feedback (Pages menu) and make a request for it if no positive solution for that version arrives.

Meantime, I did a bit more testing with Pages '09, which may be of use to those using that version.

Second test, using a page layout document with page orientation set to Landscape.

Copied a section (all pl sections are single pages), then pasted it into the same target document as used for test above. Pages change the page orientation to match the Portrait layout of the target doc, ran the objects in the right hand column off the edge of the page (this is what would have happened in the second source doc as well, had orientation been changed there—text was in text boxes, the other object in this column in an image), and left the text boxes the same size and shape as they were in the original.

Repeated with a third source document (full page image with overlying text in a table that looks like it was created in Numbers '09 and pasted in to the Pages doc). This time I was checking whether I could place the new one between two existing pages. I selected the first page thumbnail and pasted. As expected, the new page was pasted in between page 1 and the second page/section.
