After being on Facetime for a while, my microphone stops working. I notice the top of the computer feels hot. Is this an issue? Does the microphone get too hot to work?

After a while on Facetime, my microphone stops working. The top of the computer feels hot. Does the microphone get so hot it stops working? Is this a common issue and is there a solution?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
