i have installed mavericks and now appleworks 6 does not run

Since Lion, 10/7, PPC applcations like AW (those reliant on the older Power PC processor) are no longer supported. They were continued into Snow Leopard, 10.6 by way of a PPC emulator called Rosetta. Rosetta is gone since 10.7, a few years now.
