I would like to know if there is any compatibility problem with Cannon Powershoot SX500 digital camera and my Mac.

Sure - it uses SDHC cards so if you've an SD slot on your MacBook Pro, it will work (always insert the SD cards - don't hook up the camera via USB - that's just asking for problems).

Your Mac is compatible with nearly all digital cameras, your Powershot SX500 included.
If your Mac has an SD card slot (many MacBook Pros do) then you can just insert your SD/SDHC cards into your Mac and copy the photos from the card.
And you can always connect your SX500 to your Mac via USB and use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture to copy your photos to your Mac. Works fine, I have done it this way for years with many digital cameras including quite a few different Canon Powershot models. Never had a problem.
ps. File transfer is faster if you have an SD card slot in your MBP or if you use an external card reader (instead of copying directly from your camera).
