orientation change doesn't work?

the re-orientation feature on my iPad has ceast working, meaning that I am permanently in portrait mode. This is after a long time in which it would periodically hang up in one or the other orientation. Now, won't change at all, as tho the screen orientation lock switch was on, which is not true.

Any corrective available, or am I stuck?

iPad 2, iOS 5

If there isn't a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

The Settings > General > Use Side Switch To controls what the switch on the side of the iPad controls - so if that switch is controlling notifcation mute then the icon at the far left of the iPad's taskbar (double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe that to the right) will control rotation lock (and if the side switch is controlling rotation then the icon far left will be for mute).
