girlfrends lost document in the cloud? HELP!

HI Guys

ive just recently purchased an imac and my gf was working on an important document on her user profile side on it.

she had downloaded it from an email (word doc) and when went to save was promted to save to the cloud< which she did.

I get home and the documents added data (3 hours of work!) has gone only the original in downloads remained.

My question is. What happened to the document? I tried to save as she did (renamed the file) and it let me save to the cloud too. She had never signed into the cloud so im suprised it let her save it there. When i signed into her cloud space no document was there. I switched user profiles and looked into mine which I had signed into and it wasnt there either.

so having signed into her cloud it now lets me save there and they appear. where has the missing file gone though?

any help would be much appreciated as she put her heart into the work this afternoon.
