I added a cross-fade to two audio clips. One of the clips develped a Black Bar across the top in the timeline. I have since deleted the transition but how do I get rid of the Black Bar?

Connected clips cannot have transitions between them unless they're connected to each other as a secondary storyline. That's what that bar indicates, a secondary storyline. You can break it apart if you wish; or serves no purpose in its present state.
How do I do that because they are separate now, I think.
Select the bar. Find break apart in the menus. Use Help.
