recording over old audio vocal tracks

i have imported an old 2012 GB file ( 605 ) into 10

there are audio vocal tracks ( purple )

that i wish to record over on

but there is no signal

i have to in GB 10 add a microphone track audio track

and then i get the signal

why cant i record over on an old audio track with the effects i want
